Welcome to Afternoon Coffee with Jacques, a cozy corner of the internet where Human Design meets modern leadership. Grab your mugs and let's jump in!
Anyone else sense a deep energetic shift happening in society?
Whether it’s the sheer number of people experiencing spiritual awakenings, the widespread rejection of conventional ideas and systems, or the ways in which people are aggressively choosing authenticity over conformity, it kinda feels like something is up.
In the past month, most of my clients have described feeling like they're standing on a precipice: at the close of one chapter, but also at the beginning of a new, undetermined, and magnetic one.
What I shared with them, I'll share with you: we are, in fact, collectively standing at an energetic threshold, witnessing the end of one global cycle and the dawn of another.
Human Design teaches that humanity moves through global cycles or eras, each bringing a unique background frequency that shapes our collective experience.
Each Human Design era spans 400+ years, and right now, we're witnessing the end of the Era of the Collective (1615-2027) and the birth of the Era of the Individual, beginning in 2027.
From 1615-2027: The Era of Planning (The Collective Age)
Name: Era of Planning aka Era of the Collective
Tagline: The Age of 'We’
The Unspoken Agreement: Good people follow ‘rules’ and ‘authority’. Conform to society's expectations and you get security and belonging in return. Your personal truth takes a backseat to group harmony.
Core Characteristics:
Emphasis on structured, ‘top-down’ hierarchal systems: think religion, nation-states, structured education, 9-to-5s, traditional family structures, patriarchy, and colonialism. (Really all the -isms but we’d be here all day…)
Divine masculine energy: emphasis on output versus intuition, data-driven decisions, capitalism, and traditional gender roles. IMO, it's no surprise so many people (especially women) are more connected to their divine masculine than their divine feminine when masculine energy has dominated the collective for last 400+ years 🤯
Shift from tribalism to nationalism + capitalism: We went from knowing everyone in our village to pledging allegiance to flags and stock markets. This leap birthed the Industrial and Information Revolutions, giving us the ability to scale everything.
New Human Design Type (starting in 1781): the Projector, individuals that are here to help guide, manage, and advise the Tribe.
TL;DR: this current era prioritized collective stability over individual freedom.
From a world-building POV, in many ways this era was necessary because we moved from scattered agrarian-based societies to a more integrated global community. The Industrial Revolution, assembly lines, standardized education, hospitals, welfare systems: all products of our collective agreement that planning and working together created a better, safer life.

What worked:
Unprecedented cooperation: Society worked together liked never before, which enabled the rise of governance and technology, alliances between nations, and structures like the United Nations, all rooted in an ethos of mutual benefit and planning for the future.
Advances in tech, knowledge & infrastructure: We became masters at strategic thinking, detailed blueprints, and long-term planning. Five-year economic plans, urban development, global supply chains. We learned how to plan everything. Cue: the rise of consultants!
Challenges & Shadows:
Over-reliance on external authority: This era taught us to look everywhere but within for answers. We became addicted to being told what to do. Trust the experts, follow the rules. People learned to silence their inner wisdom in favor of external validation and prescribed paths.
Loss of individuality: this era prioritized cohesion over uniqueness. Large institutions often demand conformity, homogenization, and harsh class structures, resulting in many fighting tooth to fit in. Unique identities, cultural nuance, and unconventional paths were frequently flattened to fit into pre-approved molds. Entire groups of people were designated as labor, discriminated against and commodified, rather than being perceived as fully-sovereign human beings. Many traded authenticity for acceptance, or creativity for stability. Strategic cooperation often became overwork; and “supporting the tribe” turned into martyrdom for many.
The next era will challenge the ‘one-size-fits-all’ systems and thought processes that the Era of the Collective created.
The Transitional Years (now until 2027): the Pivot to Individuality
Rather than a sudden flip of a switch in 2027, we are gradually moving toward the energies of the next era: the Era of the Individual.
We are living in the ‘in between’. The old systems still beg for conformity while the new era whispers sovereignty and freedom. That’s why everything feels contradictory and maybe even a little uncomfortable.
As we get closer to 2027, we will continue to see:
The rise of the Individual: People are returning to self. Remembering. We are witnessing a renaissance of self-discovery, self-empowerment, and self-reliance. Individual/inner wisdom serving as the primary navigation system, rather than external validation or group consensus. It’s no coincidence that ‘tap into your inner wisdom’ and DIY approaches to life are blossoming as we near 2027 – the energy of the next era is already bleeding through.
People reclaiming their Voice: The internet and social media have shattered traditional gatekeeping, allowing individuals to speak directly to the world. Personal brands now wield influence that rivals traditional media empires, while grassroots movements organize without institutional backing.
Tension & polarization as old systems evolve: Transition amplifies both human potential and human fear. Many people (for ex, MAGA) are doubling down on old paradigms (for ex, clinging to ideological institutions or attempting to enforce collective order), while others are swinging to the opposite (radical individualism and rejection of established authorities). The result is a polarization we can feel palpably af.
How to Navigate the Transition
The years leading up to 2027 are a liminal time – one foot in an old world, one foot in a new world.
Anxiety and uncertainty are normal, but this period offers a chance to shed old expectations and embrace self-empowerment. By understanding that the chaos has a purpose (the birth of a new cycle), we can navigate these years with curiosity vs fear.
Here are a few ideas rooted in Human Design:
1. Understand how to leverage your Human Design Strategy & Authority: These two attributes inform how you make your most solid decisions, which will be crucial to understand as our society quickly evolves. You can find yours for free here.
2. Cultivate radical self-trust: Rather than defaulting to the norm, practice listening to your inner wisdom - whether it’s your intuition, gut instincts, inner voice, etc. The more you operate as an aware individual and prioritize authentic decisions, the less turbulent these changes feel. As external norms collapse, your internal compass will become critical.
3. Reimagine community: Human connection isn't disappearing, but it's changing form. Instead of relying on massive institutions, seek out like-minded individuals and small teams that share your values. Think quality over quantity, and if this speaks to you: resonance over proximity.
4. Understand where the old “Age of We” is evolving in your life: For example, are you (or people you know) questioning the value of traditional college? Choosing an alternative path? Rejecting corporate hierarchies for flatter, more collaborative teams? Redefining what family looks like?
